Try one of the award wining chocolate chip cookies. Of course, you can't leave without dessert. The cases are filled with unique wraps, salads, soups, entrees, quiche, and other seasonal creations. When on the go, I often stop in the adjoining "market" to get lunch to take out. The Sunday brunch is my favorite., I can smell the homemade rolls and fresh breakfast dishes! Everything I have tried has been excellent! I love the food at the Black Forest Café & Bakery. She said Bruce was the inspiration for the delicious pastries.īruce trained at the finest culinary schools in the world - including Le Cordon Bleu in London and Ecole de Cuisine, La Varenne in Paris.Įvery year since 2002 the Black Forest has won the Best Cookie award from NH Magazine as well as a recent cheesecake award and "Best Dessert Cafe" of 2007. Martha emphasized that the Black Forest uses local ingredients whenever possible. As their popularity grew, they found they needed more space and moved to the current location just off of Highway 101, where they expanded their operation to include a function room and take-out.Īt the Black Forest Café & Bakery, you will experience creative dishes and mouth-watering desserts that you won't find anywhere else! As Martha Walters explained to me, this is the result of the implementation of old-world techniques. I spoke with co-owner, Martha Walters who told me that the Black Forest Café and Bakery first opened on Novemat Salzberg Square where they remained for 10 years. All foods are hand made from scratch on the premises every day using fresh, local, natural ingredients! Owners, Bruce and Martha Walters adopted a unique philosophy. The Black Forest Café & Bakery specializes comfort foods with a creative twist! So needless to say that is one place we will never set foot in again.Give your taste buds a treat and stop by the award winning Black Forest Café & Bakery located in Amherst, New Hampshire. The one positive is they have a good wait staff. You accept that on occasion there maybe an issue when dining out but not 2 of 3 dishes with major flaws. Then "their take" on shrimp scampi which it appears is overcooked pasta in a bowl of something akin to flour paste with absolutely no flavor, even the manager stated there had been a mistake in the kitchen that they thought they had corrected uh no,might want to try the food before sending it out of the kitchen if you suspect there is an issue. Then came the meals we did order, first was the Reuben which had absolutely no corned beef on one side, none, nothing how is that even remotely acceptable? Another thing the kitchen staff should have noticed when you cut it to plate it. Noontime on Thursday, you think they would have figured out before opening that they were low on a "slow roasted" dish and inform the wait staff ahead of time. After ordering I was informed that they were out of lamb. Stopped for lunch, ordered the small bowl lamb dish. Oh also, their rewards program is worth signing up for if you frequent this place. If you're looking for a more casual setting than the winery down the road, this is definitely the place to go. Despite the menu covering all of the basics, I feel it could be a bit more diverse, but what they do have is very satisfying. Their pricing is a tiny bit on the expensive side, but you get what you pay for here, and you'll be happy you came here instead of the Olive Garden. Super rich and will definitely feed two people twice over. Their real bread and butter oddly enough isn't the actual homemade bread and butter they bring it to you when you sit down (which is very good by the way), but their desserts. They have burgers and sandwiches as well, and a few signature cocktails. Their menu has something for everyone, including vegan and gluten free options. BFC is not your average hipster run restaurant. Don't let this turn you off if you're not the hipster type. Black Forest Cafe seems like one of those hipster type places at first, with a small menu on a clipboard and weird water jugs that look like fish and make a funny gurgling sound after they're done putting your water.
